GRETE

Seeing her passion for the ocean ‘live’ during many of our cleanups, we consider Grete Rolsted as one of our own! Daughter of a forester and a retired healthcare professional (Dansk: ernærings- og husholdningsøkonom) aged 69, Grete has nature in her heart and mind.

A natural connection to the environment

Because of Grete’s father’s engagement with and love for nature, Grete has grown to be quite an activist herself. As an enthusiast of the ocean with a love for swimming, she tells us that hates seeing waste everywhere she goes.

Grete has joined numerous environmental organisation initiatives, both grassroots and more well recognised. She is part of many cleanup groups around the Copenhagen area, including local groups like Amager Fælleds Venner, Dråben i Havet, and of course..us, Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark, and financially contributes to different organisations, including Greenpeace.

Solving ocean challenges, one word at a time!

Grete believes that the biggest challenge we need to solve in order to save our ocean is climate change and plastic pollution, and thinks that we - Ocean Watchers - are an inspiration and her ocean heroes! To deal with the challenges at the systemic level, Grete feels strongly about spreading the word, talking about the issues around us, contacting politicians and contacting the media. Knowledge sharing, information and education are key in getting everyone on board with saving life on our planet.

She is thankful for a scientific approach to climate change, which helps many to recognise the big challenges ahead of us, and what we can do to solve them.
