Guillaume Blanjean

Hello, my name is Guillaume Blanjean. I am an electronic artist and musician playing under the alias of Atlas Castle. I'm as well founder of Petite Victory Collective, a music Label & Collective representing different electronic sub genres, based in Copenhagen Denmark. Sustainability and eco-friendly are some of the keywords of the collective. We act towards ecological concerns through music compilations & diverse events supporting ecological initiatives. I am originally from France. I have been living in Denmark since 2011. In my free time, I enjoy playing music, practicing photography, and exploring the city by bike.

Being able to join Art For Ocean in collaboration with Nordic Ocean Watch is really something I've been looking forward to. I was born and raised in a very traditional and typical sailor city in Normandy surrounded by the ocean and maritime life. My grandfather was a mussels and oysters farmer. I've spent my childhood near the sea taking care of the farms with him while enjoying outdoors activities near the ocean. The ocean is for sure in my genes and a big part of my inspiration.

As a kid I could already hear my grandfather getting upset for each time he'd find human trashes on the beach and near the farms. Oceans are big, they’re beautiful, and we definitely take them for granted. Our oceans do so much for us, but judging by the way we’ve been treating them; it’s a pretty thankless job. It provides half of the oxygen we breathe and it regulates the climate... those two main reasons seem enough to me when it comes to why we should protect the oceans and the life and organisms living in it.

The project Art For Ocean by Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark gives me the opportunity to participate actively with my own tools toward something bigger than myself. Toward a greener world with minded and caring people.

Art for ocean cleanup

First cleanup of 2022 and oh what a success! More than 30 volunteers collected over 30 kg of trash! A big THANK YOU to all the ocean watchers who helped collecting trash at Refshaleøen! After the cleanup, Guillaume Blanjean, known as Atlas Castle turned trash into tunes at Ekho Ekho.

Guillaume is an electronic artist and musician, as well as the founder of Petite Victory Collective, a Copenhagen based music label & collective. Sustainability is a keyword for the collective - which is set on acting upon ecological concerns through music compilations and events supporting ecological initiatives. Since 2021, Petite Victory Collective is supporting Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark and the ‘Art for Ocean’ project. In the past year, they developed two compilations to raise awareness about the oceans, and all proceeds from the sales of "Minimal City Vol. I" & “Elements Vol. I” was funnelled directly to NOW. This year, we are thrilled to host the first event together, where Guillaume recorded and sampled sounds from the trash we found during the day to produce ‘Recycled Music’. The recordings took place at Ekho Ekho, one of Denmark's largest music communities located in a building of 4000 sqm on Refshaleøen and containing 61 rehearsal rooms and 1 production rehearsal room.

From Guillaume Blanjean

We had the pleasure to kick off the cleanup season side by side with Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark while turning all the trash collected into music samples. Thanks to Ekho Ekho Studio we got a proper room to turn those trashes into samples that we will use in our next compilations! Those samples were used in our songwriting process. A palpable connection to the natural world even when processed through digital and analog equipment. Music written with those samples invites the listener to explore the organic, the textured, the elegant and the abstract.

The art for ocean cleanup that we had at Refshaleøen was our first workshop and initiative as a label and collective. We wanted to be part of this initiative as a label and collective because engaging the music community to take action for the environment is definitely on our to do list. We are acting towards ecological concerns through music compilations, turning trash into music. Listen to the track from the day below.

The project Art For Ocean by NOW gave us the opportunity to participate actively with our own tools toward something bigger than ourselves. Toward a greener world with minded and caring people. We're certainly looking forward to more projects and collaborations with NOW in the near future".

Get the SOUNDWASTE sample pack and the compilation Elements Vol. I released with songs made from the trash samples.
