Why did the club decide to engage in a sport club partnership with NOW?
Helgoland Surfers and NOW crossed paths at Sydvestpynten, a popular kitesurf beach south of Copenhagen. As a club of kitesurfers and windsurfers, we can very much identify with NOW's mission to create public awareness about keeping our oceans clean. We spend a lot of our free time on beaches or in the ocean anyways, waiting for the perfect conditions. With this partnership we can help create awareness across the different generation of surfers and their friends in and beyond our club.
What do the club hope this partnership will bring?
We mostly believe this will bring even more fun to our club. Helgoland Surfers has a high level of member engagement through surfing, social gatherings, maintaining equipment and arranging fantastic club trips. By adding another purposeful activity, we give even more members a chance to connect with each other and grow in our community.
Have Helgoland Surfers engaged in something similar before, cleanup events etc.?
It's the first time that we as a club engage in a partnership like this, and we are very excited about it. We may have been a little inspired by our former president Daniel Mirecki who recently founded OMHU.dk in Hvide Sande, an initiative working with marine litter awareness as well.
